"L'Aurore", meaning Aurora, is the goddess of Dawn in roman mythology. She is said to renew herself every morning and fly across the sky, announcing the arrival of the sun. She is also known for her mortal lovers and failed romance. In this depiction she seems young and playful, smiling from under neath her cloak of hair. Aurora appears very young and her expression is care free.

Artist

Denys Puech (1854-1942) was a French sculptor. In 1881 and 1883, he twice won the second prize in the prix de Rome contest. In1881and1883hetwicewonthesecondprizeintheprixdeRomecontest. He then won first prize in 1884.
